AR & VR In Ed-tech
Augmented Reality i.e., AR augments our surroundings by adding digital elements to a live view, mostly by a camera on a smartphone whereas, Virtual Reality i.e., VR is an immersive experience that replaces a real-life environment with a simulated one.
AR maintains a good mix of both the virtual world and the real world. And therefore, distinguishes between both clearly. And can be used on Smartphones, Tablets, & other mobile devices.
VR gives you the entire real world in a virtual way. And therefore, one can clearly see anything and everything but in a virtual world. It can be operated using a head-mounted display and glasses.
In AR, a virtual environment is designed to mix with the real environment, with the goal of being informative and providing additional learning about the real world, which a person can access without searching for it. Virtual reality comes with a complete environmental simulation that replaces all the objects from the real world with an entirely virtual world. Because these virtual environments are entirely fabricated and customized for better learning and understanding, they are often designed which human eye can understand. While both virtual reality and augmented reality are designed to bring a simulated environment to the user that they can relate to easily, each concept is unique and involves different cases. In addition to entertainment scenarios, augmented reality is also being used by businesses, because of its ability to generate informational overlays that add useful, real-world scenarios.
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies are used across so many industries, such as smart cities, engineering, film and TV, gaming, and health tech.
But can you imagine using it for your Kid’s education?
- VR and AR technologies are gradually transforming the education system by providing a unique and innovative way of learning. And hence transforming the world’s learning experience. Though, for such new and modernized technologies & learning processes, India is not very far behind in obtaining its advantages and benefits. Today, VR and AR technologies are changing and updating the whole education system in schools. Students are very happy to see something like this and engage with these 3D technologies to get a more engaging and innovative learning experience with their applications.
- More than 1/3rd of the education system in India mostly revolves around bookish learning which helps students to learn about anything. But the problem with this kind of situation is their concept is not clear as they just learn but don’t understand the things clearly.
- In the present times, educational institutions are replacing traditional classrooms with modern & new classrooms. Even though online learning i.e., digital learning offers convenience, ease, and flexibility in the learning process, it also comes with a few challenges. One of the major challenges with remote learning is the amount of distraction faced by the students due to the other content available online. The shift in studying from books to digital devices has also led to a reduction in the attention span and engagement levels of the learners
- In such a case, technology acts as a blessing in disguise. New-age technologies such as immersive ones like VR & AR are helping in transforming the Indian higher educational landscape. They cater to all the challenges faced by the new-age remote learning process and help revamp teaching-learning experiences. They made studies interactive, engaging, and immersive. With this case, the role of VR/AR in the system will redefine India’s teaching-learning space. Consequently, this will want ed-tech organizations to make an extensive range of applications in the AR/VR field that can further expand the education sector.
How Indian Education system is going to react to AR & VR technologies?
VR and AR can make the teaching-learning process more interactive and engaging by improving participation and involvement come into use to help higher education students understand many things, from history to science. With the aid of virtual tours, students can fully engage themselves in the subjects without any distraction. Therefore, getting them involved in the learning process can be more efficient and productive. VR and AR applications digitally build interactive real-world ecosystems and visualizations utilizing images, sounds, text, and additional informational input.
Therefore, rather than understanding typical subjects in a classroom setting, the students can go through a virtual world to learn concepts better. AR & VR are the certainties of the planned teaching and learning system. Classroom learning is going to be drastically remodeled with the headway in these new fields of technology. Though the technology is already advancing, and several learners are benefitting from it. It is one of the most significant things in modern times that directly influences the Indian education system by including digital transformation in higher education. VR is hence poised to become much more popular in its usage and influence in the future. The teaching-learning community in the country will witness stronger tools for augmented prototyping of real-world experiences. VR & AR can make the education program more informative and engaging. Technology has transformed the interior wiring and the thinking mode of millennials. Today’s students are less enthusiastic about reading books. Instead, they would love to watch videos and visual presentations of what is being taught in the classroom through those books and seek knowledge through more interactive educational experiences. Technology is a significant factor that has brought this standard change in education delivery.
